Urban Beach Holidays

Urban Beach Holidays – I love the sea, I can well go to a beach and relax, but… I’m always looking for a museum or an art exhibition… so why not combining all? Urban beaches are the answer!

Medieval armours from many countries

Medieval armours from many countries – it was windy in the garden, so I’m sorry for the “witchy” hair, but it suits the atmosphere in the room :)

So for today I present a city I have very recently visited (it’s veeery close to Olinda) – Recife (1537. It holds the 1st synagoge of the whole Americas). Just one more stop and I’ll be back to Montevideo (loved it!) Recife, Natal, Olinda and João Pessoa are urban beaches, just like San Sebastian in Spain (here). And so, it holds what’s known as the Best Museum in South America, and one of the 25th best museums in the world – the Brennand Insitute.

The private collection of Mr Ricardo Brennand started decades ago, of course. I’m known for seldom being impressed by material things – and I have to confess that this time I was. Recife was under the Dutch government for some decades and the museum has a huge collection of Dutch painters. Also some Canaletto paintings, that I love. The place is enormous, amazing, with fantastic gardens, incredible collections of all you can imagine, statues all over the gardens – you go to the coffee shop and you’re surrounded by statues – weapons, watches, paintings, etc. Whatever I say won’t do justice to the place and even my humble pictures don’t, either. I can just say one has to go there to describe the feeling. What do you prefer, beach holidays or city culture? Or maybe some urban beaches breaks? I’d love to know!

So, I leave you with some interesting pictures, in my opinon :)

  1. Hi Denise. So when you were here in Recife you went to visit Brennand Castle, didn’t you? It’s wonderful, isn’t it? It is one of the most interesting tours to be made by anyone who visits Recife without a doubt. When I first went there, I felt like I was in Europe. Beautiful photos you chose. And you didn’t have to bother sending me anything else, since you did, thank you very much and I will await your delicacy. I wish you a great week.

  2. Oh wow, what a beautiful place to visit! I’ve never thought of an urban beach holiday before, I guess you could do that here in Brisbane, they’ve made a beach in the middle of the city, haha! :)

Hope that you are having a nice start to your week :) We finally got some cooler weather after our weekend heatwave, so I’ve been enjoying that!

  3. Hello my sweet Denise!
What a lovely place to visit!
    Lovely pictures and beautiful statues!
Love the picture with the Arches and the reflection in the glass!
I’m sure you are having a great time!
    Enjoy your holidays!
    Have a happy new week!

  4. Yes, I so agree.
A blend of beach beauty and museum designs would be an ideal vacation! I love to see art, in any form, especially paintings. How wonderful that you enjoyed such a trip.
You look very beautiful, your hair is anything but witchy.
I also love the statue, and the ornamental gate!

  5. I’m the same way. I enjoy the beach, I actually love it, but also adore art and history so an Urban Beach Vacation is a great fit for me. I like the “witchy” hair on you, you look wind kissed. I learned of Recife when I was in Art School, I would love to visit one day soon. The Ornamental Gate is stunning. I love old maps also. Thanks for checking on me Denise, I’m so happy to be back.

  6. As you wisely said, we can combine beach holiday and city culture by opting for a stay in a seaside town. There are so many cities in the world that have amazing beaches. Urban beaches can be just as beautiful and clean as those in secluded areas. I always had a great experience with urban beaches in my home town. They are all very neat and the sea is extremely clean.

I love Dutch painters! I’m sure that I would have enjoy this exhibition enormously. The statues and the sculptures are extremely beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

You look very radiant and happy! you always do look beautiful dear. I do like your outfit. I’m a big fan of maxi length.

  8. Often we take two holidays during the year, one for culture and one for the beach. It makes it much easier as we often stay at all inclusive resorts for the beach holiday.

They are two totally different types of vacation but I enjoy both.

LOVE your maxi dress! You go so well with the rest of the majestic room.

  9. Wow!

    xx Rena
