Happy 2017! Nail art

Happy 2017 nail art!

2016 had many terrible moments for the world. But let’s look at the year for what it was for each of us. Nothing is completely bad, as well as nothing is totally great. I’m sure that each of us had happy moments during the year! If we ever feel depressed, we should consider what we’ve done so far and what we’ve accomplished. Let’s not live always on “autopilot” – examining our lives is nice to plan and reach the things we want. It’s time to thank for what we have achieved!

I may change something this year: Friday Feelings will be sometimes Monday posts with or without outfits. I tried my best to publish 2 posts a week for 5 months, but I’ll go back to my previous 1 post a week. It’s better for me for a while. So next post will come on Jan 9th!

Many times I’ve shared a new year’s questionnaire on my previous blog and here too :) (here and here) So why not starting a new year with the “famous” questionnaire again? :)

How was 2016 for you? I’d love to know!

1.  What did you do in 2016 that you’d never done before? I went to Bergamo, Verona, San Marino, Oslo, San Sebastian, Biarritz and other places that I was longing to.

2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions and will you make more for this year? I don’t normally make new year’s resolutions, but maybe I have some plans… but no pressure! It makes life easier. I need to exercise, for sure and have healthier food habits. But I say this every year :)

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?  Maybe not that close, but yes, I know friends who gave birth.

4. Did anyone close to you die?  Unfortunately yes. 2 people very very close :(

5. What countries did you visit? Two I never went before, 8 visiting again: Ireland, San Marino, Norway, ItalyUruguay, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, France and Germany.

6. What would you like to have in 2017 that you lacked in 2016? Healthier habits :)

7. What dates from 2016 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

January 1st in San Marino and later David Bowie’s exhibition in the Netherlands; March in San Sebastian – one of the happiest times in my entire life; but then June, because a very close family member passed away and July, when one of the best friends of my mother, also like a mother to me, passed away.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finishing my 2nd year at Music College. Losing some weight :)

9. What was your biggest failure? Not solving all I need(ed) to, on behalf of the family and personal things, but that was not my fault – when you are in justice and lawyers’ hands you will have big delays.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Oh yes, I caught the swine flu and I don’t wish that to anyone, it’s awful! I stayed in bed for 2 long weeks!

Striped dress, Rery

11. What was the best thing you bought? Furniture, books, cosmetics, perfumes, shoes.

12. Where did most of your money go? Trips, books, shoes, clothes, cosmetics and furniture. But I always donate many things during the year.

13. What did you get that you were really, really, really excited about? Get, bought or gifted? It’s ambiguous! The thulite necklace and gloves in Oslobrooches and rings in San Marino and Italy and a fantastic clock in Dublin, for my birthday.

14. What song will always remind you of 2016? It was released in November 2015, so it was fresh in 2016: Adventure of a Lifetime by Coldplay. But also I Follow Rivers, although it’s not new.

I don't wear tight dresses very often, but this one was so comfy!

I don’t wear tight dresses very often, but this one was so comfy!

15. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? I guess the same. I try to be positive, always.

b) thinner or fatter? About the same, because I put on weight during 2016 and then lost it again along the year. OK, remember the 2-rather-4-pounds (1-2 kilos) I mentioned people should not worry about during Christmas? That happened to me :) And I’m not worried right now :)

16. What do you wish you’d done more of? Dance. Meditate. Draw and paint.

17. What do you wish you’d done less of? Worrying about decisions? I’m not sure.

Just trying some new poses :)

18. Did you fall in love in 2014? No new love in 2014, very happy for the existing one!

19. What was your favorite TV program? Documetaries, always.

20. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Hating is too strong.  There are some people I dislike, but that’s OK because I think some dislike me, so it’s a balance. We cannot please everybody.

I have spent Christmas in a sunny place - but the sun really harms my skin. So to protect myself, I used an umbrella :)

21. What was the best book you read? Buddhist tales.

22. What did you want and got? There’s not much that I want and that I don’t get. Please, this is not arrogant. It’s just that I may be someone who is not dreaming about a yacht and then not getting it leaves the person frustrated… that’s not me. I have very few wishes.

23. What did you want and did not get? A material or an “inner personal” thing?  Material, a perfume – left to buy in another city (during a trip) and there it didn’t exist… and didn’t find it online :(

24. What did you do on your birthday? I went to Dun Laoghaire (Ireland, here) and I loved it. I never have birthday parties. I love the sea and at least I was near it.

25. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? If I had lost more weight, to be like I was 5 years ago (before my parents passed away). But I am on my way :) And a very personal event and trip, that still didn’t happen.

26. What kept you sane? Writing, watching meaningful movies – meaningful for me, of course. Writing and reading positive quotes.

27. Who did you miss? My family and other very important people to me. Some fantastic friends.

28. What did you miss? Bushy Park view… I’m spending a semester abroad, so I miss Indian food… and the Pizza Parlour in Bewdley :)

29. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2014.

No matter what, keep positive. You create your world by having positive feelings.

30. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

A bit dark… Crucify me. One word I substituted.  “Don’t hope to ever find me, I fear I’m too long gone”.

I loved reading your answers to all those questions and when it comes to the photos – wow, just wow! they’re really beautiful and I have to admit I envy the sunny weather quite a bit. this photo where you’re sitting on the stone bridge – it’s really awesome and you should totally frame it!! and the first portrait too – looks like a shiny ad or something 😉 also, happy new year to you and thank you for all those wonderful comments you’ve left in my blog. let’s hope 2017 will contain more happiness, all wishes coming true and also more blog posts! all the best to you, dear Denise!

Sorry I’ve been out of the blogosphere for a while, I’m just struggling to get back into it at the moment and giving myself a little space from it all. I’m pleased things seem to be going well for you and I love your positive energy about the new year ahead and for sharing snippets of your life -sorry to hear of your losses this year.

Thank you for all of your support during 2016 Denise.

PS. you look amazing, you don’t need to worry about weight loss (referring to you saying you wish you lost more weight)

Du bist einfach begabt in vielerlei Hinsicht.

  10. This is such a great post to read about your year. It’s been wonderful to read your blog throughout 2016, you’re such a positive influence and I value your friendship. Looking forward to more in 2017. Also adore your nails and outfit here.

  11. This was such a good read, Denise. I enjoyed reading this questionnaire. Love your positive attitude to life , and how lucky you are that you travel to so many countries. Wish you a wonderful 2017. I believe you will achieve whatever you are planning to do this year.

  12. I love reading long posts so I guess I must be an exception that confirms the rule? Well, I think some people do read long posts. I’m always surprised how many people actually read my posts. Sometimes when I post something, I don’t really expect someone bothering with reading all of it- but to my surprise people often do. So, you never know.

It was interesting to read about your year. Mine was kind of crazy in terms of figuring out some things, but I can’t say that it was bad. There were both sad and happy moments. I’m sorry to hear you lost two persons you were so close to, that’s always hard. I faced some losses myself this year.

It seems to me that 2016 was difficult to many, but maybe it is just that this was a year when some problems us (the general public) wasn’t aware of surfaced…perhaps that last year wasn’t that much different from the rest of them. Well, anyway let’s hope for the best in this 2017.

btw I didn’t know you are attending a Musical Collage, that’s so cool. I wanted to start University again and study something else this time, but my husband is not very supportive of this idea. He thinks I spent too much time as a student as it is…and I’m always trying to learn something new, that’s just my nature. I think we should always invest in ourselves- and learning new skills is the best way to do it. I was talking about it with a friend recently- her sister is a fashion designer and sometimes they organize courses. I was just telling to her that I should take one. If it works out, then maybe I will buy a sewing machine for myself. She told me it is best to get some practice first, then I can decide what kind of sewing machine would be best for my needs. I know how to sew by hand and I know embroidery but I have never worked with a sewing machine, I would love to learn it.

on the subject on NY decisions. I haven’t any definite ones, but I do plan to lose some weight. I gained some weight this Autumn (not for Christmas but before it, I usually don’t gain weight for Christmas I think it is because there is so much cooking involved that I don’t have time to eat) and I have had back problems lately. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it but just to be on the safe side I plan to lose some weight. I’ve gained about an inch everywhere. I started working out more regularly too.

  13. Happy New Year Denise! Wow, looks like you had quite a rollercoaster year filled with tough moments, as well as wonderful experiences. I hope that the New Year will bring you nothing but awesomeness, love and unforgettable memories!

    ANOUK

  14. Happy New Year Denise!!
I like this questionnaire, it’s a great way to look back into the year, reminisce on good memories and get an idea of what we want and what we have to change for the new year. Sounds like 2016 was a full year for you. I’m sorry to read about your lost. I like that you got to travel and the caluble lesson you took from the year.
My year felt a bit still but I learned to make the best of the moment and that there is always a positive side to all situations.
I hope 2017 bring you much love, joy, health, good friends, success, happy memories a so much more Denise. :)

  15. Dear Denise, your posts have become perennial favourites for many reasons and thank you for always being a light in what some often call a self-absorbed blogging world. Firstly, Happy New Year! what a fantastic manicure. I know generally around the holidays I never count calories, I prefer to enjoy because it’s a rather feast and often massive celebration of family festivities during this time. But, now I will get back on track after having a little cold. Wish you the most marvellous start of 2017 and many happy and safe travelling ventures. <3 /Madison

  16. Denise i love this post so much awn I do your outfit and parasol! The nails are so colorful and fun, too, just like you.
2016 was a good year, but that last half was very anxiety producing for me. Living in NYC and near “White house North” is a bit daunting, with police and military all around. This year, unfortunately was one full of personal losses, too. But I will say that It has been a good year, too, I have made lovely new friends, and my family is well, so that is a lot!

Your clock sounds like a great gift, My favorite things to by is jewelry, I love that they are one of a kind and made by a local shop, as i like to support small business.
I listened to many great books this year, too, and saw many gorgeous sunsets!
    Happy NY 2017!!

    Feliz 2017!!!

  18. Wow I don’t wish swine flu on anyone either! I’m glad you managed to meet some goals though and healthier habits are a goal for 2017, they are for me too. 2016 was a tough year, you went through a lot, but hopefully this one will be better and you will grow stronger, Denise. I think going back to one post a week is fine too if it suits you! Happy new year!

  20. First of all wishing you a happy and healthy 2017, Denise. Looks like we had a similar up and down 2016. I am sorry about your loss, it’s so sad. And I am happy that you spent so many happy moments making beautiful memories. Wishing you that there will be even more happy memories to make this year. Love your outfit, girl, you look beyond beautiful here and so so happy. You are truly a real beauty, Denise. Stay the way you are, beautiful, lovable and adorable. The past year was more of a roller-coaster to me. There were some very bad moments, e.g. the illness of my bf father whom I truly love, more than I did loved my own father. I am so grateful that he is now so much better and his old self again. Oh and about my updates, next one will be tomorrow, Monday 7am PST. Have a beautiful Sunday, Denise.

  21. That is such a great way to start the new year post.
Tell me about weight issues. I want to be at the weight level when I used to think I was fat 😀
But all the food I tell you. Great that you got to visit so many countries.
    Swine flu surely sounds terrible.
Hope you will have great 2017.

    Love your blue earrings here.
I really enjoyed reading this about you.
I thought of you before Christmas a lot as I discovered that a lot of scenes from my children’s TV serial favourite, The Box of Delights, was filmed in Bewdley!!x
